When it comes to preparing food, there are different methods from smoking to grilling it. Which one is your favorite method? The answer will normally depend on how much time you want to allocate for your cooking session.
In addition to the time required, another difference between smoking and grilling will be the temperature at which your food is exposed. To understand the difference between these two cooking methods, we will elaborate further on both cooking methods.
Smoking
This cooking method is definitely not for those who are impatient. Smoking requires time and patience to produce the best smoked foods. Normally, the temperature used is between 68° to 168° F. This method is used to prepare food at low temperatures. If you do loved Salmon and impatient as well, why don’t you try this delicious smoked salmon?
The time required will then depend on the type and thickness of your meat. You can start smoking from 5 up to even 15 hours in total. Although this is the most non-practical cooking preparation, smoking will deliver the juiciest smoked foods as a result.
Smoked foods range from fish, pork, steaks, ribs, beef, salmon and even vegetables. Once you know which food you would like to smoke, let’s say you want to smoke a chicken, this is how you start smoking. Begin by marinating the chicken first, here’s a little tips on marinating chicken. Create a mixture of salt and pepper and add on other spices according to your preference.
Then, apply the mixture on the chicken you are about to smoke. Put it in a plastic wrap and store it inside the fridge for a few hours. For better result, it would be best to keep it in the fridge longer. This process will help infuse the flavors and let the meat soak up all the spices.
After the marinating process, pre-heat your smoker and place your meat inside once the heats build up. How many hours should you take? Again, it depends on the type and thickness of your meat.
Grilling
Unlike smoking, grilling is the fastest method of food preparation. It will only take you around a few minutes to give you the tastiest grilled foods. However, it does go through the same marinating process first. Marinate your choice of grilled food and leave it in the fridge for a couple of hours. For the best taste, do let it marinate longer.
After marinating, prepare your charcoal or gas grills. You can also choose to spend more by investing in infrared grills. The basic principle of grilling is to burn the surface of your food to create a crust that seals the juices. This can be done by grilling your meat over a high temperature for a relatively short period of time.
