Despite the bad rep, cooking with your microwave can actually preserve the nutrients because a microwave cooks significantly faster than traditionally frying, simmering or any other cooking methods that take longer which gradually breaks down the nutrients of the food.

SALMON FILLET
One of the easiest and arguably healthier way to cook a salmon fillet is by steaming it in the microwave. It is also much simpler and way less hassle.
There are several tips to steaming your salmon properly using the microwave.
The first and obvious precaution is to make sure you are using a microwave-safe dish.
From there, you can start seasoning your salmon fillet.
Salmon is one of those dishes that are perfectly good with just salt and pepper, but you can mix it up by adding lemon, herbs and other spices.

One important note is to add in a teaspoon of liquid to keep the fish moist during the steaming process.
A teaspoon of water should suffice, but you can also try citrus juice or even white wine to add a dash of flavor.
Once seasoning is done, cover your dish with a similarly microwave-safe lid or a plastic wrap, make sure to cover thoroughly so no steam can escape.
Next, microwave your fish!
A typical salmon fillet takes 4 – 5 minutes of steaming in a 1,000-watt microwave.
Check your microwave and use this as your benchmark.
You’ll know the salmon is cooked when the flesh turns from translucent to opaque and pink.
If you’re still unsure, steam the fish again in 30-second intervals until it’s fully cooked.
Good news is that you can apply this microwave-steaming technique to other seafood as well, such as Dory, Tuna and Shrimp.
If they are frozen, make sure you defrost them prior steaming them in the microwave.

CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

It’s simple to make, relatively healthy and can be cooked in just 5 minutes using your microwave.
As the name indicates, this mug cake recipe is intended to be made for single servings in a typical coffee mug of 350ml.
The benefit of this is that you can quickly expand the serving size if you have friends or family who want to have a piece of cake as well.
The recipe involves a teaspoon of coconut oil, one large egg, two tablespoons of honey, two tablespoons of plain almond milk, two tablespoons of natural unsweetened cocoa powder, two tablespoons of flour, vanilla extract, a dash of salt and baking soda.

The first step of preparing the mug cake is to coat the inside of you microwave-safe mug with coconut oil.

You can add some marshmallows if you like.
The final step is to microwave on high for about 2 minutes on an 800-watt microwave.
You can cook for additional 10-second intervals until it’s fully cooked.
It’s best served immediately when it’s still hot.
