Maintaining a healthy lifestyle should be something that everyone strives to achieve. In search of recipes on the Internet, you should also consider your own unique dietary needs. Follow these steps to customize your own immune system-boosting recipe!
Decide on your palette – sweet or savory menu?
Food is generally divided into two categories, sweet and savory. Sweet foods don’t necessarily contain table sugar, but these tend to be processed without using much salt. Savory foods use salt and acid (e.g. lemon juice and vinegar) to increase appetite. So, which one are you in the mood for?
Sweet recipes to boost the immune system
1. Choose your carbohydrate
On our product shelf, we highly recommend Mother Nature Buckwheat Flakes as your go-to carbohydrate. It’s high in both fibre and protein. Although fibre is indigestible, it’s very useful to the friendly gut microbes that reside in the colon. These helpers make digestion more efficient, and prevent harmful microbes (pathogens) from infecting your body.
BA! Muesli is a sugar-free alternative to most supermarket cereals (they don’t need sugar to taste ‘sweet’, do they?). High in fibre and low glycemic index, making it the perfect carbohydrate for a healthy and controlled weight-loss diet program.
2. Choose your protein
Is cereal a soup or is milk a condiment? As long as it’s tasty, does it matter? We offer various sizes of natural pasteurized Indomilk Fresh Milk. For a healthier choice, try adding 1 part Mother Nature Kefir to 3 parts milk in your cereal.
Kefir is probiotic fermented milk. It is richer than many other milk-derived products precisely because it contains lactose-consuming yeasts and lactobacillus species that reduce lactose content while increasing protein and multivitamin content.
Savory recipes to boost the immune system
1. Choose your carbohydrate
Red and black rice are much healthier alternatives to white rice and potatoes. Both red and black rice are whole grains, which means they contain the fibre-rich kernel and nutrient-rich part called a germ. Fibres maintain the health of your digestive system.
Antioxidants such as anthocyanins are also present in red and black rice. This prevents your immune system from being overwhelmed by threats to the body. Check out the Manggala Organic Black and Red Rice.
2. Choose your protein
Seafood is one of the best sources of protein, and salmon is the king of seafood. Salmon is rich in omega-3 fats, which reduces LDL cholesterol (responsible for heart diseases) while at the same time acts as an antioxidant that offers support to your immune system.
Raw salmon can be boiled to make a Finnish Lohikeitto soup. While the recipe calls for potatoes, it’s ultimately your soup and you can even consume it with red and black rice – doubling up the antioxidant content for you!
